PA State Representative Arrested On Assault And DUI Charges

The article below shows the quality of politicians today.  The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has been inundated with corrupt politicians.  The goal this November is to replace corrupt politicians with quality, honest ones…if they exist!

A three-term Democratic state representative from the LehighValley announced today that he is abandoning his re-election bid, a week after he was charged with drunken driving and assaulting his wife.

Rep. Joe Brennan said in statement that he would remain in office through November.

“I truly regret the entire situation,” he said. “I understand the public’s interest in this because of the office I hold, but I hope that people will balance that with my family’s need for privacy during a painful and difficult time.”

House Democratic spokesman Bill Patton said the state party planned to try to replace Brennan on the November ballot, but it was not immediately clear how that process might unfold.

The Republican candidate, Catasauqua acupuncturist David Molony, said he was surprised by Brennan’s announcement. “I thought he was going to try to hang in there and make a go of it,” Molony said. “But he has a lot of things going on, so I’m sure he made the decision that was best for him.”

Police said they responded to a 911 call on Aug. 15 about a man hitting a woman outside Brennan’s home in Fountain Hill, and his wife told officers Brennan had choked, punched and wrestled her to the ground.

Brennan, 48, was pulled over a few blocks away and charged with simple assault, harassment and driving under the influence. His lawyer did not immediately return a phone message Wednesday seeking comment.

His statement referred to being “in recovery.” Last year, Brennan was arrested for drunken driving near his district office in Bethlehem after his blood-alcohol level was found to be nearly four times the legal limit. Bystanders told police they saw him fall and hit his head, but he drove away after being helped to his feet.

In October, as he was accepted into a program designed for nonviolent, first-time offenders, Brennan said he had completed a 30-day inpatient treatment program.
